Madison Phillips MSW, LCSW

Hello! I’m Madison Phillips. I’m a therapist for adults struggling with anxiety, depression, and traumatic experiences. Through counseling and therapy, I work with people who have experienced tough stuff in their lives and who have difficulty identifying their emotions. My goal is to help you stop feeling numb and overwhelmed, and instead start encouraging you to see healing and transformation.

Are you looking for a safe space to find healing? I help adults overcome anxiety, face difficult emotions and feel empowered.

My Journey To Becoming A Therapist

My own growth through personal life struggles is what helps me relate so deeply with clients. I cherish working with sexual assault survivors and the LGBTQ+ community, as I have lived experience in both of these areas.

I struggled with severe undiagnosed anxiety as a teenager and young adult. Therapy, as well as mental health medications, helped me become the person I wanted to be. It’s also allowed me to start helping others on their own journey towards healing!

Helping People Gives My Life Meaning

Being a therapist is an honor. I love helping people become healthier and empowered, and seeing them finally getting the life they desire. The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is inspiring others to be all they can be.

I want to guide you towards healing & transformation.

I Have Empathy and Compassion for Others

I have a natural ability to:

  • Help people identify what they are feeling

  • Uncover what’s underneath the surface

  • Be flexible on the path of discovering what’s going on

  • Help clients heal their past and manage the present

People who know me often say that I am a good listener, who can sit in the present moment with you, even if it’s scary or uncomfortable.

Our Therapy Sessions Are Focused On You

Sessions will provide you with the space to focus on yourself without feeling selfish. In feeling safe and comfortable, you’ll be able to feel what you need to feel and focus on yourself without fear of judgment.

The Importance of Safety & Trust

It’s important to me to create safety within each session and ensure that the healing process is collaborative. There isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to therapy. Our sessions will fit your specific needs and concerns, and I am always open to feedback on what we can do differently.

I will never force you to share more than you want to share, especially as it relates to traumatic experiences. Research shows that the most important factor for effective therapy is the relationship between the therapist and the client. I promise to go at your own pace, to gently challenge you, and to do everything in my power to provide you with the tools and guidance needed to heal.

My Professional Background

I received a Bachelor of Science in Justice Systems from Truman State University. Afterwards, I worked at a community mental health clinic and decided to pursue my Master of Social Work degree. I obtained that degree from University of Southern California’s virtual campus, and currently hold a license to practice in the state of Missouri. I have training in EMDR, DBT, and TF-CBT.

As A Therapist, I Embrace The Following Philosophies

  • I believe that you are worthy of love and care

  • I believe that survivors are not what happened to them

  • I believe that emotions heal when they are seen, heard, and validated

  • I believe that we can do hard things, like going to therapy, and we can live better lives for it

  • I believe that loving and accepting ourselves for who we are, scars and all, is one of the most courageous things we can do!
