Dustin Bennett Frieda
He/Him
Therapy for children, teens & adults in Columbia, MO.
Dustin Bennett Frieda
Dustin is a graduate-level counseling intern completing his Master’s in Counseling through Central Methodist University. He works with children, teens, and adults at Aspire Counseling’s Columbia, MO office, with a special interest in supporting youth. Dustin helps clients navigate anxiety, stress, OCD, life transitions, and the often-challenging process of finding direction and meaning in their lives. As a graduate intern, he is able to offer services at a reduced rate.
I came to counseling after spending over a decade as a K-12 public school music teacher. During that time, I discovered how meaningful it is for me to work one-on-one with people, supporting their mental health, growth, and personal goals. Working with young students taught me how to meet people where they are, build trust through patience and creativity, and help them develop confidence over time.
That experience continues to shape how I show up as a counselor today - patient, structured, and genuinely invested in the people I work with.
What Can You Expect in Sessions with Dustin?
My therapeutic style is warm, supportive, and collaborative. I believe therapy should be tailored to what is most helpful for each client, and I place a high value on building a strong therapeutic alliance.
I take an evidence-based approach to counseling and primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). For clients struggling with anxiety, I also incorporate exposure-based interventions to help people gradually face their fears and build confidence over time. I am passionate about continuing to grow as a clinician and plan to pursue additional training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD.
I believe deeply in the mind-body connection and regularly incorporate body awareness, mindfulness, meditation, and breathwork into sessions - especially when working with anxiety. My background in music gave me a deep appreciation for how our bodies hold stress and how rhythm and breathing can help regulate our nervous systems.
My goal is to provide practical tools and structure clients can use both in and outside of session, while maintaining a calm, steady, and supportive presence in the therapy space.
I Especially Enjoy Working With…
Children and preteens navigating anxiety, stress, or big emotions
Teenagers facing academic pressure, social challenges, or identity development
Adults going through life transitions such as divorce, career changes, or becoming a parent
Men who may be new to therapy and looking for a straightforward, practical approach
Individuals who feel stuck and are searching for meaning or direction in their lives
I am committed to providing affirming, inclusive care for LGBTQ+ clients and strive to create a safe, respectful, and welcoming space where all identities are honored. I approach this work with curiosity, humility, and deep respect for each person’s lived experience.
Training & Supervision as a Counselor
As a graduate-level intern, I offer services at a reduced rate while receiving close supervision from Kristi Sveum, Aspire Counseling’s Senior Clinical Team Lead and one of the most experienced clinicians on our team. Kristi is known for her hands-on supervision style and extensive experience mentoring interns and provisionally licensed therapists.
Working with a supervised intern is often described as getting two therapists for the price of one - you receive my full attention in session along with Kristi’s expertise and oversight to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care.
I currently see clients in person at our Columbia, MO office.
A Little About Me
Outside of counseling, I enjoy traveling, baking, music (including playing the bagpipes), and lifelong learning. These interests reflect my curiosity about the world and my belief that growth is an ongoing process - one I’m honored to support in my clients.
