Lee's Summit Self Care Resources
As a counseling practice that is expanding to the Blue Springs and Lee's Summit, MO area, we are passionate about promoting self-care and mental wellness in our community. I believe that self-care is essential for maintaining a healthy balance in our lives, and it can be especially beneficial for those who are struggling with stress, anxiety, or other mental health concerns.
For the past 6 years, we’ve helped clients in Mid-Missouri get connected with resources that promote good mental health. Now that we have two clinicians who will be able to see clients at our new Lee’s Summit location, we want to do the same thing in this area. There are many different self-care resources available in this area, and we want to highlight some of the options availble for our teen and adult clients.
First, I recommend exercise as a form of self-care. Regular physical activity can help to reduce stress, improve mood, and boost overall well-being. There are several great options for exercise in our area, including the Blue Springs YMCA, which offers a wide range of classes. Jazzercise in Lee’s Summit is another great option for having fun and getting some exercise in. The Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation also offers a variety of fitness classes, including zumba and kickboxing.There are several local yoga and meditation studios, such as HotWorx Yoga in Blue Springs, which offers a variety of classes, hot yoga, barre and more.
Another important aspect of self care is getting enough sleep. A good night's sleep can help to reduce stress, improve mood, and increase energy levels. If you are having trouble sleeping, there are several resources available in our area that can help. The Sleep Center at Lee's Summit Medical Center provides a range of services, including sleep studies and treatment for sleep disorders.
Meditation and mindfulness are also great self care resources. These practices can help to reduce stress, improve focus and concentration, and increase self-awareness. Here’s a link to some great meditation meet-up groups in the Kansas City area.
In addition to these physical self care resources, there are also several mental health resources available in our area. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Greater Kansas City offers support groups, education, and advocacy for individuals living with mental illness and their families. The Mental Health Association of Eastern Missouri also provides a wide range of services, including counseling, case management, and support groups.
One of the most important self care resources is support from friends and family. Being able to talk to someone who cares about you and understands what you are going through can be incredibly helpful. If you don't have a supportive network of friends and family, you can find support through local support groups, such as the ones offered by NAMI and Mental Health Association of Eastern Missouri.
In conclusion, there are many self care resources available in the Blue Springs and Lee's Summit, MO area. From exercise and sleep, to meditation and mindfulness, to counseling and support groups, there are options for everyone. It's important to take care of ourselves, to make sure that we are able to cope with the challenges of life and to thrive. Remember, self care is not a luxury, it is a necessity.

While we originally started with an office in Columbia, MO, we recently had one clinician move to Blue Springs and another who is in the area multiple times a month. This has made us realize the need for a physical presence in the Blue Springs/Lee's Summit area in order to better serve our clients.
